Great value
Good in spring & summer & autumn

The gist

Bali is several trips in one: surf-and-party Canggu, yoga-and-cafés Ubud, clifftop-temple Uluwatu, and quiet island-hops to Nusa Penida and the Gilis. It’s affordable, lush, and deeply photogenic, but the south is developed and busy — head inland or offshore for the postcard.

Why go

Ubud rice terraces

Uluwatu temple & sunset

Nusa Penida day trip

Surf in Canggu

Advisor notes

COMMON MISTAKE

Basing the whole trip in the south (Kuta/Seminyak) and then fighting two-hour scooter traffic to everything — split your stay between Ubud and a coast.

SKIP THIS

The Instagram "gates of heaven" if you hate lines — there’s a literal queue and a guy with a mirror faking the reflection for tips.

TIMING MATTERS

Dry season (roughly May–September) is the window; the wet season (December–March) brings daily downpours and the seaweed/trash tide on south beaches.
