The gist

Dubai is a city of records — the world’s tallest building, vast malls, man-made islands — set against old-town souks and an hour from red-dune desert safaris. It’s a polished, easy, family-friendly stopover and a warm-winter sun escape.

Advisor notes

COMMON MISTAKE

Visiting in summer — June–September is dangerously hot (45°C+) and life moves entirely indoors; the whole point of Dubai’s outdoors is lost.

SKIP THIS

Overpriced taxi tours of the sights — the driverless Metro is cheap, fast, air-conditioned, and reaches most of the headline stops.

TIMING MATTERS

November–March is the comfortable, beach-and-desert season; avoid the brutal summer, and note Ramadan changes daytime dining and hours (check the dates).
