Mexico City is a vast, sophisticated metropolis — leafy Roma and Condesa, the Aztec-and-colonial historic center, Frida Kahlo’s Coyoacán, and one of the planet’s great food scenes from street tacos to fine dining. It’s cheap, walkable in pockets, and an easy add-on to the pyramids of Teotihuacán.

Skipping CDMX because of safety rumors — the tourist neighborhoods (Roma, Condesa, Centro, Coyoacán) are vibrant and walkable; use normal big-city sense and ride-hail at night.
A car — traffic is punishing; the metro, Metrobús, and Uber are far easier, and the best neighborhoods are walkable within themselves.
It’s mild year-round at altitude; the dry season (roughly November–April) is best, and Día de los Muertos (early November) is extraordinary but book well ahead.
