The gist

Singapore is futuristic, spotless, and effortlessly navigable — Gardens by the Bay, Marina Bay’s skyline, and a hawker-center food culture so good it has Michelin stars under $5. It’s the gentlest possible introduction to Asia and a perfect 2–3 day stopover.

Why go

Hawker centers (Maxwell, Lau Pa Sat)

Sentosa

Advisor notes

COMMON MISTAKE

Eating in mall restaurants — the real food (and the value) is in the hawker centers, where a legendary plate is a few dollars.

SKIP THIS

A pricey rooftop just for the view — the light show over Marina Bay is free from the boardwalk and arguably better.

TIMING MATTERS

It’s hot and humid year-round (it’s on the equator); February–April is marginally drier, and the Grand Prix in September spikes prices.
